Seborrheic keratoses
Seborrheic keratoses are very common, benign skin growths that usually appear as people age. They are commonly known as "age spots", "wisdom spots", or "barnacles" and can appear anywhere on the body. They vary from skin colored to tan to very dark and can appear stuck or pasted on the skin. They vary from a flat to a warty appearance. They are one of the most common reasons for a visit to the dermatologist. Some people inherit a tendency to develop many of them. They can also be itchy and irritating, especially when they are in areas of friction such as the braline or waistband. Although seborrheic keratoses are completely harmless, a nevus or melanoma can look similar; and therefore, a dermatologist should examine them.
